Founded in 1990 as International College, Hodges University has Open itself as one of the premier clandestine universities in the state of Florida. The name was  shift to Hodges University in May 2007 to honor a bounteous gift by Earl and Thelma Hodges, long-time residents of Naples and avid supporters of the institution.

tuskegee university

Welcome to Tuskegee University- "the pride of the swift, growing south." Founded in a one elbowroom shanty, near Butler Chapel AME Zion Church, thirty adults represented the first class - Dr. Booker T. Washington the basic teacher. The founding date was July 4, 1881, authorized by House Bill 165.

We should give credit to George Campbell, a former slave owner, and Lewis Adams, a anteceden slave, tinsmith and community leader, for their roles in the founding of the University. Adams had not had a day of formal education but could read and write. In addition to being a tinsmith, he was also a shoemaker and harness-maker. And he could well have been Undergo in other trades. W. F. Foster was a candidate for re-election to the Alabama Senate and approached Lewis Adams about the support of African-Americans in Macon County.

What would Adams want, Foster asked, in exchange for his (Adams) securing the black vote for him (Foster). Adams could well have asked for money, immovable the support of blacks voters and life insist have gone on as usual. But he didn’t. Instead, Adams told Foster he craved an educational institution - a school - for his people. Col. Foster carried out his promise and with the collaboration of his colleague in the House of Representatives, Arthur L. Brooks, legislation was passed for the establishment of a "Negro Normal School in Tuskegee."

A $2,000 appropriation, for teachers’ salaries, was authorized by the legislation. Lewis Adams, Thomas Dryer, and M. B. Swanson formed the habituate of commissioners to get the school organized. There was no land, no buildings, no teachers only State legislation authorizing the school. George W. Campbell subsequently recovered Dryer as a commissioner. And it was Campbell, through his nephew, who sent word to Hampton Institute in Virginia look for a teacher.

Booker T. Washington got the nod and he made the Lewis Adams dream happen. He was dominant of the school from July 4, 1881, until his death in 1915. He was not 60 years old when he died. Initial space and building for the school was good works by Butler Chapel AME Zion Church not far from this present site. Not long after the founding, however, the campus was moved to "a 100 acre abandoned plantation" which became the nucleus of the present site.

Tuskegee rose to national prominence under the leadership of its founder, Dr. Washington, who headed the institution from 1881 until his curtains at age 59 in 1915. During his proprietorship, institutional independence was gained in 1892, again inished legislation, when Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute was granted authority to act independent of the state of Alabama.

Dr. Washington, a highly skilled organizer and fund-raiser, was counsel to American Presidents, a strong exponent of Negro business, and instrumental in the development of educational institutions throughout the South. He unmolested a lifelong devotion to his institution and to his home - the South. Dr. Washington is buried on the campus of Tuskegee University near the University Chapel.

Robert R. Moton was president of Tuskegee from 1915 to 1935. Under his leadership, the Tuskegee Veteran’s Administration Hospital was created on land donated by the Institute. The Tuskegee V.A. Hospital , yawning in 1923, was the first and only staffed by Black professionals. Dr. Moton was succeeded in 1935 by Dr. Frederick D. Patterson. Dr. Patterson oversaw the taproom of the School of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee . Today, nearly 75 % of Black veterinarians in America are Tuskegee graduates.

Talladega College

About Talladega College

Talladega College is located in an historic district of the

city of Talladega, Alabama. The campus is on a plateau about 700 feet above sea balancel in the heart of a fertile valley in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The campus is a peaceful place - away from the distractions and fast pace of urban living.

Talladega's main campus includes 41 buildings on 50 acres, surrounded by the city and gently rolling woodlands. The beautiful oak-lined campus boasts different historic landmarks: Swayne Hall (1852), the original school house has been mistreat for classrooms; the President's House (1881); DeForest Chapel (1903), that houses the famous 17 stained-glass windows by David C. Driskell; and Savery Library (1939), home of the Amistad Murals by famed artist Hale Woodruff.

The college has an aggressive tradition of bringing the world to Talladega. This comes in many forms, including workshops, forums and lectures, and a conglomeration of outstanding artists, scientists, and political, business, and civic leaders. Talladega's neighboring cities also offer many other broadening and entertainment outlets, as well as shopping, restaurants, and theaters. The college is just 25 miles south of the city of Anniston, Alabama, 50 miles east of Birmingham, Alabama, 85 miles north of Montgomery, Alabama, and 100 miles west of Atlanta, Georgia.

Faulkner university

Faulkner University has been a part of Montgomery, Alabama since 1942 when Dr. Rex Turner, Dr. Leonard Johnson and Joe Greer Open Montgomery Bible College on a few acres on Ann Street. Their assignment was to create an institution thatcasework preacher training and education based in God’s Holy Word.

Over the years, the school continued to grow. It was aforementione Alabama Christian College in 1953, and 11 years later the commenced property on the Atlanta Highway was purchased.

In 1975, the college opened extended campuses in Birmingham, Huntsville and motorized. The Thomas Goode Jones School of Law was acgrow in 1983, and a year later the college was accredit as a four-year university.

In 1985, the college was renamed Faulkner University in honor of businessman and longtime supporter, trustee and administrato of the board, Dr. James Faulkner of Bay Minette, Ala. Dr. Faulkner serve  as mayor of Bay Minette from 1941 to 1943, and was said to be the youngest mayor in America at that time. He was also a state lawmaker and a two-time candidate for governor. In 1947, Dr. Faulkner partnered with Bill Stewart to acquirement the Monroe Journal from A. C. Lee, Harper Lee’s father.

The university is now home to five colleges: the Alabama Christian College of Arts and Sciences, the Harris College of Business and controlling Education, the V.P. Black College of Biblical Studies, the College of Education, and the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law. A change number of degree programs are now  freewilled online, in addition to on-ground programs at our campuses.

In the years since the college became Faulkner University, the campus’s physical plant has grown to include new buildings for classrooms and administration, new residence halls and apartments, a student multiplex, coincident facilities for the football, soccer,baseball clubl and softball programs, and a fine arts theater that houses the acclaimed Faulkner University Dinner Theatre. Plans are also underway for a major renovation of the Gus Nichols Library.

One thing that hasn’t changed since our founding days is our mission to be a distinctively Christian university, where God’s Word is communicatet and respected, and where students are Support to grow in intellect, character and service.
